About Ageya

OtterFew people have had the opportunity of a close encounter with a baby sea otter in its natural habitat, but it was from such an experience that the initial idea for AGEYA (pronounced uh guy’ uh) originated. While kayaking off Shuyak Island, one of our founders chanced to meet this delicate resident of the sea, and she came away filled with special memories and a dream to share this type of experience with others. “Ageya” is an Athabascan Dena`ina word meaning “otter” and is an acronym for Alaska Guided Expeditions For Youth and Adults, which was chosen as our name in hopes of capturing the magic that is the underlying spirit of Alaska.
